Media Release -- The Cartoon Art Museum welcomes Lloyd Dangle and a host of indie cartoonists for the opening reception of Last Stop: Troubletown on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 8:00-11:00pm. This event coincides with the annual Alternative Press Expo (APE), which takes place at San Francisco’s Concourse on October 1 and 2. Additional guests at press time include popular syndicated cartoonist Keith Knight (The Knight Life, The K Chronicles), Stephen Notley (celebrating 20 years of his alternative comic strip Bob The Angry Flower), Shannon Wheeler (Too Much Coffee Man), Shaenon K. Garrity (Skin Horse, Narbonic), and current Small Press Spotlight artist Karen Luk. Additional guests will be added to the Cartoon Art Museum’s website as they are confirmed.
Visitors will enjoy food and drink from local vendors, live drawing events, and the company of dozens of talented cartoonists. Admission for the event is on a sliding scale, from $5 to $50, with guests encouraged to donate whatever they can to support the Cartoon Art Museum.
All proceeds from this reception will benefit The Cartoon Art Museum, a non-profit educational museum dedicated to the collection, preservation and display of original cartoon art in all its forms.

Green Lantern: Over 60 pieces of original artwork will be on display, featuring highlights from some of the most celebrated artists in Green Lantern’s publishing history Iconic works by Silver Age artists Gil Kane and Neal Adams will be exhibited, along with classic stories and covers by Joe Staton, Mike Mignola, George Perez, Brian Bolland, Brent Anderson, Bill Sienkiewicz, Golden Age Greats Irwin Hasen and Green Lantern co-creator Martin Nodell.
70 Years of Archie Comics: This retrospective includes over 40 pieces of original artwork spanning Archie’s publication history, with ephemera including a special look at the Archie newspaper strip, preliminary sketches, correspondence and other rarities. Featured artists include Bob Bolling, Gene Colan, Dan DeCarlo, Frank Doyle, Stan Goldberg, Rich Koslowski, Harry Lucey, Bob Montana and others.
Cartoonists Remember: September 11, 2001-2011: Major comic syndicates have rallied their cartoonists to dedicate their strips on that day to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks. This exhibition features a selection of commemorative comic strips published on September 11, 2011. Featured cartoonists include Ray Billingsley, Paul Jon Boscacci, Norman Felchle, Stan Lee and Mort Walker.
Small Press Spotlight on Karen Luk: Karen Luk is a freelance illustrator by trade and a writer by leisure. This exhibition features highlights from her past decade of creative efforts.
