Crisis on Infinite Earths is in the capable hands of DC’s animation department, and it could very well make the Anti-Monitor into a bonafide star.

It’s not often that two cartoon announcements get the most attention at San Diego Comic-Con. With Hollywood’s writers and actors on strike, those live-action reveals were nowhere to be found. That set the stage for DC to steal the show, confirming that both Watchmen and Crisis on Infinite Earths would be getting animated movies. Considering DC’s stellar reputation for making mature cartoons, Crisis is in good hands.

For years, the main selling point for collecting Crisis on Infinite Earths was basically for two iconic covers. By far, the most recognizable has been Crisis #7 with Superman cradling Supergirl. Behind that comic, collectors have loved Crisis #8 that featured the “death” of Barry Allen. With a Crisis on Infinite Earths movie in the works, it should put a spotlight on what has been one of the most underrated villains in DC Comics, the Anti-Monitor.

Arrowverse fans saw him in the CW’s Crisis adaptation, but he deserved better than a rubber suit. Seeing him brought to life in animated form should be perfect since the imagination is the only limit when it comes to cartoons. It should create a new legion of Anti-Monitor fans, which could very well translate into key issue sales.

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #1

George Perez’s stunning artwork continues to inspire comic artists, and many argue that some of his best work was on this series. That is reason enough to add Crisis #1 and its magnificent cover to your collections. '=

Besides the art and this being the first issue of a major series, it’s also worth collecting for the first appearances of The Monitor, Alexander Luthor Jr., and Pariah. More importantly, Crisis #1 also marked Blue Beetle Ted Kord’s debut for DC Comics.

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #2

If there is a character who would look amazing on movie screens, it’s the Anti-Monitor. Although he is rarely the main villain in a comic, he finds his way into different stories and never fails to make an impact. With his aesthetic, bringing him to CGI life for a live-action movie would be fantastic.

At this point, fans will have to settle for a cartoon Anti-Monitor on the small screen, but that should still be impressive. He just so happened to make his first appearance in Crisis #2.

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #6

Since Peacemaker won over mainstream fans with his HBO Max series, Crisis #6 has been a go-to collectible. After all, this issue marked the first time readers saw him along with Judomaster, Captain Atom, The Question, Nightshade, and Thunderbolt in a DC Comic. Before then, those characters had been under the defunct Charlton banner.

That’s a good incentive to find Crisis #6, but that’s not all. The other reason to own this issue is the Anti-Monitor. After several teases, he finally made his first full and cover appearance here.

DC’S NEVERENDING CRISES

Since DC is making a Crisis on Infinite Earths animated movie, does that mean we could see other Crisis events getting adaptations? DC’s animation wing has produced so many great movies that handing that crew the reins to Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis sounds positively amazing. Let’s hope that’s what is coming down the road.
