If you've been following our weekly Trading Card Game Auction posts there's one common thread -- sealed booster boxes tend to sell for serious money. First editions from most major TCGs are highly collectible and a desirable investment as you don't really know what's inside. It's possible that there is one card within the box that more than doubles what you put into it. On May 25th Heritage is giving collectors a chance to bid (and maybe win!) a number of sealed booster boxes from their favorite TCGs. Here are my pics for what to watch!

Magic: The Gathering Revised Edition Booster Box

One of the earliest sealed booster boxes offered is this 1994 Magic Revised Edition. The Revised Edition is the third edition of the core set and contains 306 cards in total, with 121 of those cards listed as rare. Some cards were rotated out of this edition due to a few deciding factors. This sealed booster box contains 36 foil packs, which contain 15 cards each. This gives you 540 cards total, giving you a very fair chance of finding some true gold.

Of course, you can also keep the box sealed. Similar examples have sold for well over $10K in prior Heritage auctions. In April 2023 a similar example sold for $17,500. Prior sales include;

$13,750 in March 2023
$12,000 in September 2022
$11,700 May 2022

As prices are trending upward, it's possible this box could set a new price record. Heritage notes this box as being in excellent condition.

Pokemon Japanese Base Set Booster Box

While we've seen a lot of North American sealed Pokemon booster boxes, seldom have we seen a Japanese booster box! The Japanese version of the iconic card game was released in October 1996, while the North American version was released in January 1999. Due to the limited market on Japanese cards, finding a sealed booster box is fairly hard.

This booster box features colorful artwork and 14 different generation 1 Pokemon, including Charizard -- who would become one of the most valuable creatures from the game.

This item will likely be the big ticket item in this auction. Prior auction sales include;

$32,500 in April 2023
$23,400 in December 2022
$21,600 in September 2022

If prices continue to trend up, this box could potentially break $35K. This is the item to watch! Heritage notes this box as being in Good condition.

Akira Sealed Booster Box

This booster box might surprise you to see on this list. Currently, it is absolutely overshadowed by the other TCG boxes, but don't ignore this one! Akira was one of the first anime films to introduce Western audiences to the medium and is still celebrated today as one of the best in the genre. Rumors of a live-action adaptation have been swirling for years, and vintage Akira collectibles have started to gain traction.

This is a vintage North American collectible too. Released in 1994, anime merchandise was just starting to become easier to find stateside.

Three examples of this box sold in November 2022 for the following prices:

$169
$216
$288

This could potentially break $300, but I have a feeling a lucky winner will get this box for a steal. Heritage noted that this box is in Very Good Condition.
