Venom and the X-Men had the eBay market cornered this week as fan speculation abounds for the next entries in their franchises.

Leave it to Taylor Swift to rekindle the romance between buyers and X-Men #130. After she took in a football game with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, collectors and investors were back on eBay for Dazzler’s first appearance. The Swift Effect didn’t stop there as two other Deadpool 3 keys gave the X-Men the win in this week’s Hottest Comics.

While Swift caused a stir in the X-market, it wasn’t enough to unseat Venom from his eBay throne. The Venom 3 gossip and the possibility of the symbiotes in the MCU sent two old favorites barrelling up the sales charts.

What are the rankings all about? Here at GoCollect, you have access to eBay’s sales data with just a few clicks. Using those market watch tools, you can see the top 100 best-selling single issues straight from the father of all auction sites. The important thing to keep in mind is that these rankings are not based on fair market values. Instead, they are focused strictly on the number of sales.

This particular blog series compares the sales volume over the past 10 days. The figures are updated daily, so the numbers and rankings are in constant flux. Take this as a snapshot of where the market is turning as you keep an eye on your next collecting targets.

19. WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #1 (+49)

Topping this week’s movers and shakers list is no stranger to eBay’s best sellers. In fact, Web of Spider-Man #1 is one of the most frequent guests on the Hottest Comics blog. Besides being the first issue in Spidey’s third title, collectors have long prized the comic for its mark on symbiote canon.

In the events of Web #1, Peter Parker learned that the alien costume was sentient. After he thought he rid himself of the symbiote, the suit found its way back to Peter and disguised itself as his red and blue costume. That is a moment that would translate well onto the big screen.

For the past year, there’s been plenty of symbiote speculation on the secondary market. It started with the supposedly leaked artwork from Spider-Man: No Way Home, portraying Tom Holland with the symbiote crawling over his body. That inspired a huge wave of Black Suit saga speculation, ultimately leading to a surge in popularity for Web #1.

Any talk of an MCU version of the Black Suit Saga has quieted, but there’s Venom 3 news that has caused another spark for symbiote keys. After Sony took down a TikTok video featuring both Hardy’s Venom and footage of Topher Grace’s Venom from Spider-Man 3, many fans concluded that the two characters would cross the Multiverse and meet in the upcoming movie. That potential onscreen meeting sent the Venom keys to the best-sellers list, including ASM #316.

26. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #316 (+36)

One of Venom’s iconic covers is making waves across eBay. ASM #316 wasn’t the character’s first cover — that occurred on ASM #315 when Venom’s disembodied head teased his second full appearance. Then Todd McFarlane brought out the big guns for the highly anticipated return, drawing an exquisite piece that captured everything fans loved about Venom.

Like so many issues in McFarlane’s Marvel career, ASM #316 is valued as much for the artwork as it is the story. Make no mistake, those early Venom stories are solid reads enhanced by stellar pencil and ink work. It’s that combination that set the Toddfather on the path to superstardom and legend status. Put it together, and it makes perfect sense why this issue remains one of the Hottest Comics week after week.

Given the aforementioned Venom 3 rumors, seeing anything symbiote related is no surprise entry among the movers and shakers. This being the first cover with both Venom and Spider-Man, it’s an added incentive to own this issue. If we ever see Hardy and Holland cross paths on the silver screen, it will only add to ASM #316’s value.

49. X-MEN #141 (+34)

The bottom side of the Hottest Comics was all about that Deadpool 3 action. While Taylor Swift may have provided the propulsion for the X-keys, it was a classic Chris Claremont story that took the highest ranking among these three.

Fans are anxiously awaiting Jackman to don the adamantium claws once again. Sure, we know he’ll wear the blue and yellow Wolverine costume and have a bloody fight with Deadpool. We also know that he’ll come from somewhere deep within the Multiverse. What we don’t know is from which timeline Deadpool 3’s Logan will hail.

In arguably the best of Fox’s X-Men full team-up movies, Days of Future Past merged the stories from the first three films with the events from the prequel, First Class. Loosely following the pages of X-Men #141 and Uncanny X-Men #142, Wolverine’s consciousness is sent to the past to avert the mutant extinction of the future. As we have learned from the MCU, changing prior events doesn’t reset the future. Instead, it creates a branching timeline. That means that somewhere in the Multiverse, the DOFP X-Men are still fighting for survival.

Could it be the Logan we will meet in Deadpool 3 will be the same one from DOFP? That would explain why X-Men #141 and its iconic cover art were picking up steam this week.

67. X-FORCE #2 (+19)

Next on the Deadpool 3 half of the Hottest Comics is X-Force #2. While it’s most famous for Deadpool’s second appearance, there’s also the first appearance of yet another Weapon X, Garrison Kane.

Of course, Wolverine is the most famous of all the characters to use the Weapon X moniker. In fact, it’s Weapon X that connects Deadpool and Wolverine, and it is likely we will get some reference to the secret Canadian super-soldier program in the upcoming movie. There is the possibility that other mutants from the project will get some screen time or at least be teased in some fashion. While names like Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike are the most notable, we also could meet Kane.

In his comic origin, Kane was part of the Weapon X program at the same time as Deadpool. The project transformed Kane into a cyborg with a few Inspector Gadget-like abilities, something Marvel Studios would no doubt enjoy playing for laughs. Working as a Canadian operative, he has connections to Wade Wilson, Wolverine, Cable, and obviously X-Force.

Between Deadpool’s second appearance and Kane’s debut, there are a couple of solid reasons to add this issue to your collections with eyes on future profits.

9. X-MEN #130 (+18)

The caboose in the Hottest Comics train is one of the most popular issues on the auction sites at the moment: X-Men #130.

Seeing Taylor Swift’s name in headlines across social media is nothing new or even slightly surprising. She’s the biggest pop star in the world at the moment, so anything she does generates attention, including attending NFL games. It just so happens that she was spotted in the skybox with Reynolds and Jackman this past Sunday. That prompted an eBay surge for Dazzler’s early comics.

Swift has been the subject of X-Men casting gossip since X-Men: Apocalypse. Swifties may be getting their wish granted as rumors have swirled that she will play Dazzler in Deadpool 3. Seeing her alongside the movie’s stars has caused an uptick for Dazzler’s key issues beginning with her first appearance in X-Men #130.
