From first issues to historical firsts, the big magazine movers over the past month had a little something for everyone. The Hottest Magazines is a curated list of the magazines moving up the eBay sales lists. GoCollect pulls the stats straight from eBay and sorts them by volume moving in the marketplace over the past 30 days.

2. Sports Illustrated #v1 #1 (+1)

The grand-daddy of all sports magazines makes an appearance near the top of our hottest magazines list once more as it seems to do at least a few times a year. This time around, it’s based on 14 sales from August 1 to September 4. On the low end was an 8.0 selling in an August 7 eBay auction for $140. At the top, was a 9.8 graded copy that sold for $4,500 in an August 23 fixed price eBay sale. The record setter for this issue was a 9.8 that sold for $11,100 in a 2021 Heritage auction.

17. Captain Britain #1 (+31)

This first issue, published by Marvel UK in 1976, took a huge jump up as graded issues continue to sell at a fairly brisk pace. Marking the first appearance of Captain Britain, it is one of the top draws in the hybrid collectible of comic magazines. Five copies have sold in the past month with the high seller being a 9.8 that went for $750 in an August 19 fixed price eBay sale. The record holder is a 9.8 that sold for $5,113 in a 2021 fixed price eBay sale.

18. Nintendo Power #285 (New to the list!)

This December 2012 issue is the first to feature Super Mario Bros II, one of the all-time greatest video games. Until August, only three graded copies had sold this year. Since, however, four graded copies have sold, catapulting this issue up the list. Of those four sales, the highest was a 9.6 that went for $300 in an August 9 fixed price eBay sale. That’s a little below the previous sale in the grade, though: $350 in a December 2024 eBay auction.

46. National Geographic #v136 #6 (New to the list!)

National Geographic isn’t generally regarded as the most collectible of magazines primarily because everyone and his brother of a certain age has stacks and stacks of issues somewhere in their home. However, there are moments that the magazine reported on that were both apropos of the publication’s subject matter and of incredible historical importance. These issues are the ones that collectors seek out. One such is this August 1969 issue and its depiction of the Apollo 11 moon landing on its cover. This issue made the hottest magazines list based on three sales in the past month: an 8.0 selling in an August 8 fixed price eBay sale for $225, a 5.5 going in an August 19 eBay auction for $80, and a 7.5 that went for $99 in a September 3 eBay auction.
