Joe Greene’s 1971 Topps Football rookie card sold for $22,200 Thursday night in PWCC Marketplace’s Premier Auction to become the Pittsburgh legend’s highest-selling card of all time.

Few examples of Greene’s rookie card survived in good condition due to chipping and color-fading issues that commonly plague cards from this set. PSA gave this example a Mint 9 designation. Out of the 2,595 examples graded by PSA, only 14 have earned this high of a grade. None are graded higher to date.

Along with Terry Bradshaw’s debut card, Greene’s rookie issue was considered a top find from this 1971 Topps release.
