This is part 2 of my assessment of investment opportunities with the announced new MCU projects.  These projects offer more opportunities for investors and speculators. The uncertainty associated with these projects also involves risks in both the comic marketplace and to Marvel itself.  The reason is the unknowns of the following projects.

Hawkeye (Late 2021)

This is a transition project for Marvel Comics.  It is an attempt to transfer the mantle of a hero to a younger generation.  Sometimes it works.  Other times it does not.  Speculators and investors have long known that Kate Bishop would pick up the bow.  Young Avengers #1 marked her first appearance and the book that is seeing the most action out here. This book has spiked so speculators may be out, but investors might be in on this book if they think that Kate Bishop has long term value in not only the MCU but Marvel Comics as well.

Something should make investors wary of this property.  Yelena Belova, the new Black Widow, is also appearing on the show.  The previous chemistry of Black Widow and Hawkeye was evident on the screen.  Fans might not be as interested if the chemistry is forced between these new characters.  The names may be the same but the on-screen results may differ.  Kate Bishop books may be impacted if the character is not well received.

Ms. Marvel (Late 2021)

A pattern of the new MCU emerges with this film.  Younger versions of these characters appear on Disney+.  Older versions appear on the silver screen.  This is the project that will feature Kamala Khan, the first Muslim superhero in the MCU.  She will be featured in this show as well as Captain Marvel 2.  Two books that are of interest to investors and speculators are Ms. Marvel #1 and Captain Marvel #14.  If you believe in Kamala Khan then these are the safe books.

I am going to recommend something different to a few who can afford it.  Captain Marvel #14 Variant edition is much rarer than the normal version. At this time less than 50 exist in the CGC census.  I am not one who loves investing in variants but this book seems to be a possible home run based upon being a rare edition first appearance. Has it peaked? If Khan takes off this book could rise, but how much is the question.

Untitled Spider-Man Film (Dec. 17, 2021)

Imagine everything you have ever seen of Spider-man on the screen appearing in one movie.  That is what is rumored to appear here.  The multiverse spawned here will also appear in the Dr. Strange movie.  This is where previous speculative picks like Annihilus could die.  For years speculation has been on different realms within the MCU, but here it appears that different versions of characters on different Earths may also be possible.  Maybe we only have one Earth in the MCU but time travel impacts the versions we have seen.  Kevin Feige will decide the future of the MCU in this movie.

So many Spider-Men and villains are rumored to appear in this movie.  Maybe speculators and investors should target one...Miles Morales.  Many of you know that I am not a big fan of his first appearance in  Ultimate Fallout #4.   The reason has everything to do with the census numbers. There are too many issues out there graded and probably just as many raw copies in great condition.  The previously mention Captain Marvel book has 1/8 the total number of UF #4 books in the CGC Census.

If he does finally appear in the MCU this version along with later printings and variants may all see a spike.  The reason I am staying with the regular version is that it may be the least risky choice.  The variants and later printings may have lower census numbers but may well have peaked in price and have very little room to grow now.  The high price of the variants and later printings make me proceed with caution in everything but the main issue, and even that book scares me.

What we learned at the halfway point of the MCU

As we reach the halfway point of my analysis of investment opportunities in the MCU what we see is a transfer of the guard.  Mainstream actors are being replaced with younger talent.  We are also seeing that uncertainty brings opportunity.  These opportunities will become even more apparent in my next post.
