Media Release -- Sticks Angelica is, in her own words, "49 years old. Former: Olympian, poet, scholar, sculptor, minister, activist, Governor General, entrepreneur, line cook, headmistress, Mountie, columnist, libertarian, cellist." After a high-profile family scandal, Sticks escapes to the woods to live in what would be relative isolation were it not for the many animals that surround and inevitably annoy her. Sticks narrates her way through the forest, recalling formative incidents from her storied past in what becomes a strange sort of autobiography.

"[Sticks Angelica is] a meditation on fame... a beautiful, disturbing daydream in pink-and-black ink."—Publishers Weekly starred review

"Toying with autobiography, biography, and hagiography, DeForge examines both how we build our own sense of self and how others take on the roles we create for them."—The Guardian

"Like all of DeForge's work, Sticks Angelica, Folk Hero is weird, hilarious and affecting."—Read the complete interview in CBC Books

"This hardback collects the titular webcomic, started in 2013 as a platform for restless experimenter Michael DeForge to play with form ... DeForge weaves a weird narrative about the boundaries between civilization and the wilderness."—Paste

"[DeForge] covers subjects that are often neglected in comics, like identity, sexuality, politics, and race. He renders these issues in his ever-evolving style."—Read the complete interview in Vice

"... a bizarre yet strangely familiar world: a play on autobiography and biography that masterfully and humorously investigates our transformations, our sense of self, and the communities that we inhabit."—Eye On Design

"Michael Deforge is a cartoonist at the height of his powers."—ComicsVerse

"Sticks Angelica, Folk Hero is, oddly, a patriotic ode to Canada."— Read the complete interview in Cult Mtl

"Sticks Angelica, Folk Hero plays with the idea of identity, community and sense of self. In his first longform weekly comic after Ant Colony, DeForge turns from the acidic, grotesque universe of Colony to a surreal vision of Canada, and from cynicism to a softer, gentler tone."—Maisonneuve Magazine
