If you're a collector who's interested in original art, ComicConnect's monthly auction provides a slew of items each month. This month, there are 340 pieces of original art up for auction. That's a lot to sift through, so I picked out three of the most interesting auction items.

Just over a year ago, an original page from Secret Wars #8 sold for a record-breaking $3.3 million through Heritage Auctions. Bidding for the comic book page, which depicts Spider-Man for the first time in a black costume, started at $330,000. It eventually sold for $3.3 million – more than 10 times the starting price and became the most expensive page of comic art of all time.

Buscema, Sal - Defenders, The 1972-86 #10 Interior Page

Every Marvel fan has wanted to know the answer to this question: who would win a fight between Thor and Hulk? We've seen these two titans battle one another many times in the comics and twice already in the MCU. It even became a joke in the movies as Thor often claimed, without clear evidence, that he was the "strongest Avenger."

This original piece of art from Sal Buscema depicts a classic battle between Thor and the Hulk. The fight in this issue lasts for several pages as the two attempt to overpower one another. Like in the first Avengers film, we see Hulk unable to lift Mjolnir because he's unworthy. And like most of their battles, this one also ends in a draw (when Namor acts as a peacemaker between the two).

If you'd like to own this piece of original artwork depicting this classic battle between two icons, you wouldn't be the only one. At the time of this writing, this item has received 19 bids. The current bid is $6,950.

Perez, George - Teen Titans - RAVEN Illustration

This original artwork depicts Raven, drawn in the early 2000s by George Perez, and inked in 2019 by Perez's long-time Teen Titans inker Tanghal. Perez is, of course, famous for his work on the Avengers, the Teen Titans, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wonder Woman, and the Infinity Gauntlet.

Created by Perez in 1980, Raven becomes a prominent member of the Teen Titans and has appeared in numerous cartoon television shows and films, including the HBOMax live-action series Titans. Drawn by an all-time great, this artwork is extra special since Raven was one of Perez's own creations. In addition, due to Perez's unfortunate death last year, we know there's a finite number of items like this one on the market. If you like Perez's work, there's a similar item drawn by Perez depicting the Scarlet Witch. At the time of this writing, the current bid is only $42!

Trimpe, Herb - Incredible Hulk (1962-99) #180 Recreation

This item caught my eye. Now, this is NOT the original artwork from Hulk #180 featuring the very first appearance of Wolverine in cameo. That piece of original art sold for $650,000 way back in 2014. Considering that the page from Secret Wars #8 sold for $3.3M over a year ago, I would take an educated guess that this page from Hulk #180 could sell for 10x what it sold for in 2014.

Drawn and signed by Herb Trimpe, the artist for Hulk #180, this item is about as close as you can get to the real thing. At the time of the writing of this blog, the current bid is $2,699. While that certainly isn't cheap, and could still sell for much more, it's not something you see on eBay on any given day.
