There’s a hot rumor that a TWD actor has been cast as Sentry, and it’s lighting up the secondary market.

The word on the always-believable internet is that Steven Yeun will play Bob Reynolds/Sentry in The Thunderbolts. After rising to fame in The Walking Dead, Yeun has since moved into the comic book realm as the voice of Mark Grayson in Amazon’s Invincible before being cast in an unnamed role in Thunderbolts. Now it would seem the cat may be out of the bag.

Yeun is far from the first actor connected to Sentry. As with all Marvel roles, practically every A-lister who hasn’t already been in the MCU is thrown into the mix with Ryan Gosling’s name coming up the most often. Switching gears to Yeun could mean we’re getting a much different interpretation of the man with the power of a thousand exploding suns than first imagined.

As we wait for Kevin Feige to make things official, the gossip will no doubt have an impact on 2000’s Sentry #1. Lucky for collectors, there’s multiple covers for you to track down.

STANDARD EDITION

At the top of the collecting wish list is the standard edition. Although it seemed like a long shot throughout the early days of the MCU, fans have been crossing their fingers to see Bob cross into live action.

Of course, that was before we saw M.O.D.O.K. in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, so this may be a case of being careful what we wish for. At any rate, the gossip will immediately boost attention on this issue. As recently as March 1, the graded 9.8 has been selling for $450.

JAE LEE 1:50 VARIANT

The only way you could get your hands on this 1:50 ratio variant was if you were a comic shop and bought 50 copies of the standard edition. That automatically makes these harder to find, though they’re not in a terribly limited supply.

Although the last graded 9.8 to trade hands online sold for $399 on February 25, so far this year, the raw copies have been staying in the $100 range on eBay.

SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON EXCLUSIVE

Convention exclusives with major first appearances are always popular buys among collectors and investors. They are printed in smaller numbers, which is a boon for speculators. Having Sentry’s debut in an SDCC variant is enough to have plenty of buyers taking aim at this one. The last time a graded 9.8 traded hands online, it went for $240 on March 1.

CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR?

Yeun has delivered a wonderful performance as Invincible, and that’s with only his voice. If he’s that good in a cartoon, imagine what he can do in live-action. Sure, he’s not the blond-haired, blue-eyed Bob Reynolds from the comics, but he doesn’t have to be; Yeun can make the role his own and deliver stellar results. However, it’s going to depend on whether or not Sentry is watered down to be a glorified cartoon character.

Love or hate Marvel’s recent efforts, I think we can agree that this is not a kid-friendly superhero - nor does he need to be. Here’s hoping.
