As we all know, the MCU will have a relentless focus on Kang the Conqueror for the next few years. In fact, he is the star of the next Avengers film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty which Disney is currently scheduled to release in 2025.

During PWCC's weekly auction, PWCC has a few key issues related to Kang for sale, including issues that include the first appearances of Ravonna Rennslayer and the Council of Kangs. We'll take a look at both of those issues below.

Avengers #267 (Marvel, 1986) CGC 9.2

This issue got hot over a year ago when many investors began to speculate that the Council of Kangs would appear in the MCU. As most people know at this point, the speculators were right; the Council of Kangs does appear during the post-credits scene of Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania.

In fact, the MCU version of the Council was clearly inspired by the Council that we see in Avengers #267 as you can see in the two screenshots below from the comic and the other from the film:

As of Friday, June 16th, the current bid on PWCC for this minor Copper Age key issue is $26. Although a CGC 9.2 copy of this issue hasn't sold during the past two months, this appears to be a solid deal at this price point. This amount wouldn't even cover the total costs of having CGC grade the comic.

At the height of speculation, just after the comic boom concluded, a CGC 9.2 reached its all-time high of $113.43 in March of 2022. The book cooled off considerably after that point, but the value of a 9.2 jumped back into the $80 to $90 when Quantumania confirmed the existence of the Council in the MCU.

As a point of reference, according to GoCollect, the FMV of this book is $55. The last time a CGC 9.2 sold back on March 25th during an eBay auction, it sold for $35, but this sale appears to be an outlier. Other 9.2s that sold after the release on Quantumania on February 17th have sold for around $60 to $70.

A 9.2 is a solid grade, and still a NM-; however, according to the CGC Census, the majority (or 54%) of graded copies are a 9.4 or better.

Avengers #23 (Marvel, 1965) CGC 3.5

Although the Kang variants that we saw in the Council will continue to be a major focus of the MCU for the foreseeable future, if you're worried about this book retaining its value, you may want to check out this key issue for Kang the Conqueror also up for auction this week at PWCC. This Silver Age Avengers issue features the fifth appearance of Kang, and more importantly, the first appearance of Ravonna Renslayer, another time-traveler who becomes a key figure in Kang's life.

Importantly, Ravonna plays a key role in the first season of Loki on Disney+. At the end of season one, we see Ravonna step through a Timedoor and tell Mobius that she was in search of "free will." Considering that we haven't yet seen Kang and Ravonna interact with one another, we should expect her to appear in season two which is scheduled for release later this year.

CGC 3.5 copies of this issue don't sell often. As a reference point, the most recent sales for a 3.5 copy sold for $69 back in early May. There was only one recorded sale of a 3.5 throughout all of 2022 and just three in 2021. According to GoCollect, the FMV for a 9.6 is $70. As of Friday, June 16th, the current bid on PWCC for this minor Silver Age key issue is $44.
