Although mostly known for sports cards, PWCC hosts a weekly auction that also includes signed jerseys, comic books, tickets to coins. This week, we'll take a closer look at three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comics that PWCC is auctioning.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3 (Mirage, 1985) CGC 9.6

This March 1985 issue has always been a minor key because it contains just the third appearance of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, THE most important comic book characters to emerge during the Copper Age. In addition, this issue contains the first appearance of the Utroms, an alien race that has often squared off against the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

About the specific copy up for auction, this CGC 9.6 is a great grade; according to the CGC Census, a 9.6 is in the top 33.5% among all universal blue labels (2,555 total). In terms of its value, a 9.6 reached an all-time high of $653 in April 2021 during the height of the comic boom. However, unlike many comics that plummeted in value starting in 2022 and throughout 2023, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3 didn't crash as badly as many others did. Today, the FMV for a 9.6 is $364.

As of Friday, September 15th, the current bid on PWCC was $105.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4 (Mirage, 1985) CGC 9.2

You may also want to pick up the very next issue, also up for bids this week at PWCC, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4. Although not a major key issue (besides having the fourth appearance of the Turtles, and third appearance of April O'Neil), and doesn't have any first appearances, it's still a single-digit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle issue.

According to the CGC Census, a 9.2 is in the top 65% among all universal blue labels (2,459 total). In terms of its value, a 9.2 reached an all-time high of $375 in June 2021. Like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3, however, this book has held onto much of its value. For example, the most recent 9.2 sold for $245 on August 29th.

As of Friday, September 15th, the current bid on PWCC was $68.

Raphael #1 (Mirage, 1985) CGC 8.0

This April 1985 issue is the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one-shot spin-off issue that focuses on an individual Turtle (one-offs for Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo would soon follow). Raphael #1 also contains a major first appearance of a character: Casey Jones (who also appears on its cover).

According to the CGC Census, an 8.0 is in the top 74% among all universal blue labels (1,902 total). In terms of its value, an 8.0 reached an all-time high of $730 in April 2021. Unlike Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3 and #4, however, this book hasn't done as well in terms of holding onto its value. According to GoCollect, its current FMV is only $260.

As of Friday, September 15th, the current bid on PWCC was only $40.
