Comic news in the last couple of months has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. Marvel, DC Comics, and other publishers are treading lightly in pushing new titles and have not been as active as in the past. Though, the Star Wars brand has been gaining a lot of traction lately thru its media outlets. Below is a recap of the last couple of days on what is trending in the Star Wars rumor mill.

The Disney Plus television series, The Mandalorian, has been a big hit for them. The series debuted its first season last year and quickly received approval for a second season. The second season is currently being shown on the Disney Plus app. A new episode is released on a weekly basis. Speculation is high on their comic titles and the values of these products are trending in the right direction.

Star Wars #42

One particular book that has been on the rise since the show debuted last year is Star Wars #42. It is an issue with multiple first appearances from notable characters from the Star Wars movie universe. This issue shows the first appearance of Emperor Palpatine, aka Darth Sidious, and none other than Boba Fett. This issue also notates the first full appearance of Yoda. The characters mentioned are notable and have provided an impact in shaping their movie franchise. It is important to remember that this issue is the first appearance of these characters in a standard U.S. comic book. This issue has been reprinted in a magazine format and as reprinted artwork for the UK published comic series, The Empire Strikes Back Weekly.

This is a key issue for Boba Fett as the latest rumor is a spin-off series for this character. The value of this issue has produced positive gains since the show debuted last year (November 2019). Each graded copy has shown a positive correlation, with a 9.8 graded copy producing a 94.2% increase! Rumors should fuel the value of this book and it could go higher with a confirmed Boba Fett series for Disney Plus. Here is the link to the positive trend.

Ashoka Tano

Another character that has been teased to appear in the  Mandalorian television show is Ashoka Tano. She is a female former Padawan, who was under the tutelage of Anakin Skywalker, also known as Darth Vader. The character itself gain prominence during the animated clone wars series on Cartoon Network. Her popularity grew and rumors are confirming her appearance in the upcoming season of The Mandalorian. Her first appearance is in Star Wars: The Clone Wars #1. The character will be played by actress Rosario Dawson, as she teased herself appearing in this article from Cosmicbook.news.

In using the same timeframe for Star Wars #42, this issue has shown positive gains in all graded copies except for 8.0. Though that grade had only two sales, and both copies sold for over $400. For a modern book and non-DC or Marvel comic, I would consider that a win for sellers. The big trend is in the 9.8 grade, which saw a 28.5% positive trend in the last year and would expect a nice spike gradually if Star Wars further exposes the character to a show or movie.

To wrap it up...

Overall, the brand itself has an impressive job in promoting new characters, while integrating them with the classic ones. The brand itself has hopes of pushing movies every two years, so it is nice to know they have a plan going forward.
