Drawing inspiration from one of my favorite YouTube channels, Comic Book Investments, this blog is focused on three key issues that have experienced massive drops in value; one has dropped as much as 87% in value!

Silver Surfer #3 has lost 74% of its value since 2021.

Remember when EVERYONE was speculating that Mephisto would appear in WandaVision? That, of course, never happened, but the speculation was rampant on popular YouTube channels like New Rockstars, ... etc. To me, the Mephisto speculation launched the biggest comic book investing bubble that our community has ever seen.

Let's take a closer look at the most common grade of Silver Surfer #3, which contains the first appearance of Mephisto: a 7.0. Just prior to the pandemic, in late 2020, 7.0s sold in the $500 to $600 range. Just a few months later, in March of 2021, a 7.0 reached its all-time high of $1,749.98. Two and half years later, a 7.0 sold for just $456 which means this book has lost a whopping 74% of its value.

Considering this book now sells for LESS than what it sold before the pandemic (and before all of the Mephisto speculation began), that suggests to me that this book may have overcorrected. It could be a good time to pick this issue up if you're a Mephisto fan.

West Coast Avengers #45 has lost 87% of its value since 2021.

Some of you might debate whether this is a "key" issue since you could probably find it in dollar bins just a few years ago, but there was a brief time in 2021 when this was THE hottest book around - when White Vision appeared unexpectedly in WandaVision.

Let's take a closer look at a CGC 9.8 (the second most common grade on the Census) copy of this issue. Just prior to the pandemic, in late 2020, 9.8s sold in the $200 to $250 range.

Just a few months later, in April of 2021, the value of a 9.8 absolutely exploded reaching an all-time high of $1,401.99. Two and half years later, a 9.8 sold for just $181 -- a massive 87% drop in value.

This book also sells for less than what it did before the pandemic, an indicator, at least to me, that this book may have overcorrected. Like Silver Surfer #3, this could also be a good time to pick this issue up.

Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 has lost 77% of its value since 2021.

Although this issue didn't jump in value quite as much as Silver Surfer #3 and West Coast Avengers #45 did during WandaVision, the Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 received a lot of newfound attention when Monica Rambeau made her debut (as an adult) in the MCU as a S.W.O.R.D. agent.

Let's take a closer look at the most common grade for this issue on the CGC Census: a 9.6 (which is a little surprising for a Bronze Age book). Just prior to the pandemic, in late 2020, 9.6s sold in the $200 range. A 9.6 reached its all-time high of $428.36 in April of 2021.

Just two weeks ago, another 9.6 sold for just $97 during an auction hosted on eBay. That's a 77% drop in value in just over two years.

$97 is WAY below what this issue sold for pre-pandemic which also suggests to me that it has overcorrected. Monica is about to make her debut on the big screen in the The Marvels next month; if that movie is a hit, we could see this issue return to those pre-pandemic values.

Do you think these key issues have overcorrected? Please let our community know what your opinion is in the comments section below!
