Despite being the center of scandal, the Spawn #306 NetherRealm variant was trending in the eBay top-100 best sellers.

It’s time for your weekly dive into the Hottest Comics index. Remember, the list is ranked based on sales volume taken straight from the best source available, eBay. In this blog, we dig through the list to find the standouts that may have slipped past you. Don’t worry, GoCollect has your back.

42. SPAWN #306 NETHERREALM STUDIOS EDITION (NEW TO THE LIST)

It’s baa-aack. THE Spawn #306 variant is infamous among comic book collectors and investors. Printed exclusively for a Mortal Kombat tournament during the pandemic lockdowns, it was once thought that less than 50 copies were actually circulating on the secondary market. The rest were supposedly trashed. The idea that it was a rare comic sent prices into the four-figure range. This past summer, the truth began to unfold. A large number of copies hit eBay, thus contradicting the original story and the issue’s rarity.

For a few weeks, the Spawn #309 variant was one of the hottest issues on the market. Soon, interest faded, but its popularity has been jumpstarted in the past 10 days. What’s got it trending upwards once again? It’s hard to say. At least for now, it’s regained some of its past momentum.

9. X-MEN #4 (+21)

Will Omega Red finally get his day on the silver screen? His scrapped cameo for Deadpool 2 has fans wondering if we’ll see him in the MCU at some point. With Deadpool 3 supposedly featuring cameos galore, it’s logical to think that Omega Red will be featured in the movie.

There’s no official word on this, so take it for what it is — rumor and innuendo. Still, the potential for Red to set foot in the MCU is too tempting to ignore X-Men, vol. 2, #4.

2. OMEGA MEN #3 (+20)

Despite it being nothing but rumors, the Jason Momoa/Lobo talk is heating up. There have been reports for a couple years that he was switching DCU roles from Aquaman to Lobo. However, it seemed that wasn’t going to be the case.

Then a new round of speculation poured in, claiming that, indeed, he would be the DCU’s “Main Man,” a role Momoa has said was something of a dream for him to play. That has put the rocket boosters on Lobo’s first appearance in Omega Men #3

61. INCREDIBLE HULK #181 FACSIMILE EDITION (+24)

Across the board, Wolverine keys were lighting up eBay. A handful of his more popular issues nearly made the cut for this week’s Hottest Comics blog, including the Hulk #181 facsimile edition.

The fact that what is essentially a reprint gained enough spots to almost warrant inclusion in the Movers and Shakers says much about Wolverine’s popularity.

77. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #135 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Reportedly, Kevin Feige was not happy with what he was seeing from Daredevil: Born Again. The entire writing staff and directors were fired, and the speculation is that he wants the upcoming Disney Plus show to be closer to Netflix’s Daredevil.

With Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle, that should be welcome news for Punisher fans. In fact, it could very well have fueled the purchases for ASM #135, which is the character’s third overall appearance.
