Venom had his tendrils wrapped around this week’s Hottest Comics, and one of his most popular keys led the pack.

The Venom 3 gossip has made Eddie Brock and his fellow symbiotes the hottest property in all of collecting…at least for now. The secondary market is a fickle lover, and there were a few other titles trending lower in the ranks.

3. VENOM: LETHAL PROTECTOR #3 (+1)

Not that Lethal Protector #1 is ever not in demand, but it was pushed to a new level of popularity this week. At one point, it ranked first among all comics sold on eBay.

This came from the speculation that Sony is planning a Venom/Spider-Man 3 crossover with both Tom Hardy and Topher Grace. You see, Sony had posted a TikTok video with clips of Hardy and Grace in their respective Venom roles. Suddenly, the footage was taken down with no explanation.

Left to their own devices, comic readers (myself included) will always create their own convoluted theories on the bigger picture. Many fans believe Sony’s action will preface Topher Grace reprising his Eddie Brock for Venom 3, thus the bump in sales for Lethal Protector #1.

51. UNCANNY X-MEN #268 (NEW TO THE LIST)

XMen_Modern_Classic

Jim Lee’s X-Men run from 1989 and into the ‘90s was nothing short of stellar. It helped establish him as one of the premiere artists in the industry, and the path eventually led him to the top of the DC Comics food chain.

His cover for UXM #268 remains one of his most popular pieces and a staple of classic X-Men fans. Next year, Chris Claremont will be continuing the story from this issue, thus sparking the sales increase.

60. MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE #1 (NEW TO THE LIST)

By the power of Grayskull, He-Man has reappeared in the Hottest Comics rankings. Although not the Masters of the Universe’s first comic appearance, it tends to be the go-to for He-Man collectors everywhere. The brand has been on a comeback in recent years.

With G.I. Joe and Transformers getting their silver screen crossover, it has raised awareness for those classic ‘80s toy franchises. Now is the perfect time for He-Man to get back into live action and win over a new generation of fans.

82. BATMAN #357 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Batman fans, you’ll be getting plenty of content in the coming years. Besides The Batman 2, he’ll be an integral part of James Gunn’s DCU, beginning with The Brave and the Bold. We know Damian Wayne is getting his live-action debut, and that could broaden the spotlight to include other characters long overdue for starring roles.

With that in mind, here you have Jason Todd’s premiere as well as Killer Croc’s second overall appearance.

98. EIGHT BILLION GENIES #1 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Last year, this was a red hot comic. From the word go, Charles Soule and Ryan Browne’s vision of a world overrun by genies and wishes was optioned for both a movie and a streaming series. That sent buyers on a hunt for the myriad of assorted Eight Billion Genies #1 covers.

Like so many other keys, it went from hot to not when nothing new was being reported. Although it narrowly made the Hottest Comics, this could be a sign that Genies #1 is getting warmer.
