Welcome back to this month's Psychedelic Art Exchange CGC-graded concert poster auction! Each month, Psychedelic Art Exchange has a vintage poster auction, full of unique finds perfect for every type of collector. This month's auction has over 100 different posters ranging in grades, as well as restored finds. If you've never looked at a concert poster auction and don't know where to begin, that's ok! Here are a few of my favorite gems from this month's auction!
1967 Moby Grape, Baltimore Steam Packet at The Ark RP2
When you think of posters from the groovy era of the 1960s, bright, swirling colors likely come to mind. Created by John Lichenwalner when he was with Portal Productions, this second print may have been used as merchandise at shows. This poster is for the October 7, 1967 show with Baltimore Steam Packet, The Only Alternative & His Other Possibilities, and the headliner Moby Grape. This show was held at the short-lived venue The Ark in Sausalito.
This poster is noted as being in Near Mint condition. The one-year average on similar posters is $133, making this a potentially great buy for the right collector.
1973 The Ike and Tina Turner Review
This beautiful first-printing poster for the Ike and Tina Turner Review, held on Thursday, September 27, 1973, is something special. Held at the Portland Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon, attendees may have listened to live performances of A Fool in Love and River Deep - Mountian High. The airbrush illustration features the iconic and powerful Tina front and center, with Ike in the background. It is noted that there may only be 500 of these posters printed, making this a rare treat. It is also noted that this poster is in Near Mint Condition.
Prices for this poster have jumped all over within the last year. The last sale for a similar poster was in January of 2023 for $688. The one-year average is currently $884, making this a potentially affordable and terrific buy for the right person.
1967 NR-12 The Chambers Brothers at The Matrix
If you're looking for something iconic for your collection, this is it. This image of a woman in sunglasses would be recreated by the 2000 film Almost Famous in their marketing material and has been referred to many times in books about the era. Victor Moscoso's Neon Rose poster was used for a Chamber Brothers show at The Matrix, held on March 28, 1967, and is one of the more collectible posters of this time. The poster is noted as being in Near Mint condition.
Prices for this poster are strong, with a current one-year average of $1,699. The current 30-day average is slightly lower at $1,560, with prices trending up. This would be an exceptional buy for any collector.
1968 BG-137 Creedence Clearwater Revival, Albert King
This poster immediately caught my eye thanks to the laughing cow, which I personally associate with a certain cheese brand. Rick Griffin's art sings on this poster which was used for the Creedence Clearwater Revival, Albert King, and Black Pearl show held at the Fillmore West on September 19, 1968. This poster is noted as being in Near Mint condition.
This poster is a first printing, making it both desirable and collectible due to its condition. The current one-year average is $219, but the 30-day average is $169, with prices trending down. This will likely be a great buy for the right collector.
