One of the single biggest drivers of comic book speculation nowadays is the MCU.  From major characters like Spider-Man all the way down to D-listers like Frog Man, the MCU has fundamentally changed the way people look at comic books.  The goal of this article series is to provide investors of all stripes with some well-reasoned speculation opportunities so they can be one step ahead of a constantly shifting marketplace. So for this issue, let's talk about the fan without fear, the devil of Hell's Kitchen, the one and only Daredevil!

Amazing Spider-Man #50

Amazing Spider-Man #50 features the first appearance of Kingpin, one of the most iconic villains in all of comics.  Obviously, this is a book that a lot of people want, but I am not sure everyone realizes how phenomenal an investment this book is, no matter what the grade.

Graded Analysis: With the exception of 4.0, this book is up massively all-time in every single grade over the life of GoCollect's data.  The only reason things are different for 4.0 is because of one clearly outlying piece of data.  Here is a grade-by-grade breakdown of the growth the book has enjoyed:

9.0 - 9.8

5.5 - 8.5

3.0 - 5.0

0.5 - 2.5

Note: all of the above numbers are based on present dollar value, meaning they are inflation adjusted.  For context, the inflation-adjusted annual growth rate of the S&P 500 is ~6.8%.  That means that this book has beaten the market in every single grade.

Daredevil #168

There are two big things to love about this book: the first appearance of Elektra and the beginning of Frank Miller's time as the writer on Daredevil.  Miller's run on the title is iconic and almost universally viewed as a golden age for the character.  As for Elektra, she has gone on to become arguably the most prominent and important member of Daredevil's supporting cast and a phenomenally deep character in her own right.

Given her pivotal place in Daredevil's history, would it really surprise anyone if she made an appearance in the 18-episode run of Daredevil: Born Again?  This book is a great MCU spec play with a high-value floor buoyed by its tremendous significance in DD's history.

Graded Analysis: The book is up in nearly every grade over the lifetime of GoCollect's data.  Prices have been going down of late, but that just means now is a good opportunity to buy low!

Daredevil #1 1:100 Quesada Incentive Variant

Charlie Cox's iteration of Daredevil has proven to be a fan favorite.  He has made more appearances than any other Netflix character and is the only one to receive a new show on Disney Plus (at least, so far).  Consequently, there is a real market for rare variants like this one, which specifically invokes Cox's time as the man without fear.

Graded Analysis: This is a modern ratio book, so investors should stick to 9.6s and above.  In both those grades, the book has enjoyed solid growth.
