The Internet is abuzz over the latest rumors for Guardians of the Galaxy 3. While nothing has been substantiated, it hasn't stopped collectors from buying up the debut of Quasar, who has been said to be joining the cast of characters.

Earlier this month, it was reported that James Gunn (now forgiven for all his past social media discrepancies) is planning to put Beta Ray Bill, Adam Warlock, and Quasar in GOTG3. However, Gunn himself has not verified anything when it comes to the Guardians. For the moment, take it for what it is: speculation. Until either Gunn or Kevin Feige lends credence to it, that's all it is.

Personally, I think it sounds a bit premature for any announcements of characters for GOTG. There's a good possibility that Gunn may have told someone that he would like to use those three characters, but it's much too early for him to be doing anything with the Guardians script. Gunn is currently working on Suicide Squad 2 for DC/Warner Brothers, which gives him little time to hammer out a finished draft of a new Guardians movie.

The other part of this is that Feige has said before that he doesn't want to waste a character like Beta Ray Bill on a brief cameo. That's why he didn't make an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok; there wasn't enough room in the movie to give him the proper treatment Feige believed he deserved. That is where I see a problem with all three being put into GOTG3. That's a bit crowded for three major characters to all make their debuts.

At any rate, fans are excited over this rumor, and the sales have reflected it. Ever since we saw Warlock's cocoon and Beta Ray Bill's face carved on the Grandmaster's tower, comic fans have been eager to see them brought to life. Now that Quasar's name has been tossed into the mix, that only ups the ante. Time will tell if there's anything factual to these rumors.

There have been multiple versions of Quasar over the years - Neutron, Wendell Vaughn, Phyla-Vell, Richard Rider (who only wore the bands for a brief time), and Avril Kinkaid. Below you'll find the first appearances of each character as Quasar, but which one is the best to buy will depend on the version of Quasar brought to the movie screen.

NEUTRON

The first Quasar, Neutron's first appearance was with the Starjammers in X-Men #107 way back in 1977. Twelve years later, in 1989's X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers #2, he was called Quasar, but he didn't use the superpowered Quantam Bands. (The fact that the power comes from wrist and headbands scream bronze age. God love it.)

WENDELL VAUGHN

In 1979, readers were given their second version of Quasar, Wendell Vaughn, who was the first to use the magic bands (and sport headband).

Originally known as Marvel Boy in Captain America #217, he debuted as Quasar in Incredible Hulk #234. Vaughn would be the first version of the character to get his own self-titled series beginning with Quasar #1 (1989).

PHYLA-VELL

She made her debut in Captain Marvel #16 (2004), but she took on the powers of Quasar in 2007's Annihilation #6. That story has been oft rumored to be adapted for the MCU and is hailed as one of the best crossovers in all of Marvel Comics, which makes this a good bet to reach the silver screen.

RICHARD RIDER

Although more famous for being Nova, Richard Rider temporarily took the mantle of Quasar in Nova #23 (2009). However, his first comic appearance was in the pages of The Man Called Nova #1 (1976).

AVRIL KINKAID

The current Quasar, she deubted in Captain America: Sam Wilson #7. So far, she has proven to be among the most powerful of those who have used the Quasar title.
