In 2021, as a result of the pandemic, we witnessed a boom in comic book values that we will likely never see again in our lifetimes. Not surprisingly, that bubble burst in 2022. That may not have been a bad thing, as many overvalued books experienced a very necessary correction. In addition, this correction may have created several buying opportunities. One opportunity to consider is a CGC 9.6 copy of All-New Marvel Now! Point One #1, which contains the first full appearance of Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan).

Before the comic boom, this book's ROI was 8.7% annually.

In order to get a sense of if this book has over-corrected, let's review its historical performance prior to the pandemic. For a five-year period, a CGC 9.6 copy of All-New Marvel Now! Point One #1 steadily climbed in value. Specifically, back in 2015, a CGC 9.6 copy sold for $86. Five years later, in mid-2020, another 9.6 sold for $131.

During that time, this book's value increased by roughly 8.7% annually over that five-year period. That is a solid ROI and nearly matches the average annual return of the S&P500.

A CGC 9.6 All-New Marvel Now! Point One #1 sold for $109 on December 19th.

Then, of course, the comic boom happened. At the height of the comic boom, a CGC 9.6 copy of this book sold for $775, roughly six times what it was worth just a year earlier. Since reaching that peak, this book has plummeted in value.

Just two months ago, this book sold for $109 during an auction on eBay, an approximate 86% drop from its all-time high. Not only had it lost all of the value that it had gained during the 2021 comic boom, but it's now selling for less than it did back in 2018. If this book's value had continued to increase by 8.7% annually, it should be worth around $168 today.  To me, it appears as though this book has over-corrected.

While you'd want a 9.8 for any Modern Age book, a 9.6 of this book still puts you in the top 51%, according to the CGC Census. In addition, retailers ordered fewer than 33,000 copies of this book, meaning it didn't have the huge print run that other Modern Age books have had. In other words, a 9.6 for this book at this price point is a pretty good deal, in my opinion.

Kamala's money book is actually the second printing of Captain Marvel #17 which features her in costume on its cover. But with only 505 blue labels on the CGC Census, that book is rare, and perhaps overvalued, especially for a Modern Age key issue. The interior only features Kamala in cameo as well.
