Heritage Auctions, eBay, and ComicConnect are the most famous auction sites for purchasing comic books, but because of their popularity, competition can get heated due to the large number of bidders who use those websites. You might find better deals on comics on auction sites that are less well-known, such as Hake's and PWCC.

While sites like Hake's and PWCC may have a smaller supply of items, you can find good deals there. For instance, let's take a look at a recent sale for a major Silver Age key that sold on PWCC last week: a CGC 1.8 copy of Avengers #1. This issue sold for $1,680 (including the buyer's premium). As reference points, a 1.8 copy sold for $1,875 in early May during an eBay auction, and another 1.8 sold for $2,280 on Heritage back in December.

During PWCC's weekly auction, PWCC has several key issues related to the MCU for sale, including the first appearances of Star-Lord, Jane Foster's Thor and important character related to Kang and Mr. Fantastic.

Marvel Preview #4 (Marvel, 1976) CGC 9.0

This Marvel magazine contains the first appearance of Star-Lord, a character made famous around the world by Chris Pratt in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. As of Friday, May 26th, the current bid on PWCC for this high-grade, Bronze Age key issue is currently $300.

As a reference point, according to GoCollect, the FMV of this book is $425. The most recent 9.0s sold during auctions on eBay for $500 and $370 on May 21st and May 10th, respectively.

What If? #10 (Marvel, 1978) CGC 8.0

This book's value has taken a beating over the past year. After reaching an all-time high of $400.96 for a CGC 8.0 in March 2022 --just a few months before the release of Thor: Love & Thunder -- this book most recently sold for a mere $89 on March 19th on eBay.

Other recent sales include $70 on eBay for an 8.0 on March 2nd and another for $68 on February 5th. Both were sold during auctions hosted by eBay. As of Friday, May 26th, the current bid on PWCC for this Bronze Age key issue is a mere $21.

Fantastic Four #272 (Marvel, 1984) CGC 9.6

This isn't a major key, but some have speculated that Nathaniel Richards, the father of Mr. Fantastic and the namesake of Kang the Conqueror, may appear in a future MCU film due to his importance to the Fantastic Four and the Multiverse storyline. PWCC has four 9.6 copies of this issue up for auction this week. As of Friday, May 26th, the current bids range from $20 to $22.

As reference points, the two most recent sales for a 9.6 copy sold for $70 back in late February. Both were fixed price sales on eBay. According to GoCollect, the FMV for a 9.6 is $75. Right now, the bids for the copies on PWCC look like pretty good deals.
