We’re back with a review of recent chart-busting sales for Pokémon cards! Below are the top five Pokémon cards that sold for the highest prices during the month of March 2025. Let’s take a deep dive to determine what these sales tell us about the state of the Pokémon TCG market today.
Using sales data from eBay, GoCollect ranks the most expensive Pokémon card sales from anywhere from 10 days to a full year. Chartbusters are based on how much a card actually sold for based upon verified sales on eBay. With that in mind, let's take a look at several of the biggest Pokémon card sales from last month.
#1: A PSA 9.0 Charizard (4/102) - Base (1st Edition) card sold for $24,851 on March 9th.
Not surprisingly, a high-grade copy of the 1st Edition Base Set Charizard card, which sold for $24,851 on eBay, sits at the top of March's Chartbusters list. One of the most popular Pokémon of all-time (second in popularity perhaps only to Pikachu), Charizard is an orange dragon-like pocket monster that was introduced in the original 1999 Base Set. An extremely rare card, especially in high grade, there are only 720 PSA 9 copies of this card on the PSA Population Report. YouTuber Logan Paul once wore a PSA 10 copy of this card around his neck at a boxing event.
While this sale for $24,851 was solid, it was actually considerably lower than this PSA 9.0 that sold on eBay in February 2024 for $34,500:
#2: This CGC 10 Rayquaza Gold Star EX card sold for $24,500 on March 16th.
Coming in a close second was this CGC 10 Rayquaza Gold Star card that sold for $24,500 on eBay. Although not one of the original, Rayquaza, another dragon-like Pokémon, plays a critical role in Pokémon Emerald, acting as a peacekeeper between Kyogre and Groudon, and forming the Weather Trio. This particular card features Shiny Rayquaza which has a distinct black and gold color instead of a more typical green. It's a Star (★) card which are very rare (1 Star card in every 72 packs).
Like the Charizard card above, this card sold for less than another CGC 10 Rayquaza Gold Star card that sold for $30,859 on February 19th on eBay:
#3: This 2003 Charizard Skyridge card sold for $20,000 on March 11th.
Coming in third was another Charizard card -- specifically, a PSA 10 Charizard Skyridge card that sold for $20,000. In addition to featuring the ever popular Charizard, this was also the final Charizard card printed by Wizards of the Coast before Nintendo began publishing Pokémon TCG cards. From 1998 until 2003, Wizards of the Coast possessed a license to publish Pokémon cards; however, in October 2003, Nintendo then transferred the license to the Pokémon Company International. That provides the Charizard Skyridge card with some historical significance.
This particular sale was just shy of the record high of $20,110 for a PSA 10:
This card has surged in value over the past 18 months; the 30-day average of $20,000 is over 50% higher than the one-year average of $12,937.
#4: A PSA 10 Shining Gyarados Neo Revelation 1st edition card sold for $14,650 on March 16th.
This sale of a PSA 10 Shining Gyarados Neo Revelation 1st edition card for an impressive $14,650 on eBay set an all-time high for this popular card drawn by Ken Sugimori. This was one of the first Shining Pokémon cards ever printed and features Gyarados in its "Shiny" form, contributing to the card's popularity among collectors.
Like the Charizard Skyridge card, this Gyarados card has also surged in value over the past 18 months; the 30-day average of $14,650 is approximately 50% higher than the one-year average of $9,850.
#5: This PSA 10 Lugia EX Unseen Forces card set an all-time high when it sold for $13,999 on March 10th.
Rounding out the top five is this Lugia ex (105/115) Unseen Forces card that sold for $13,999 on March 10th. Although Lugia is not one of the original Pokémon, it is still one of the most popular having been first introduced in Pokémon Silver and Pokémon 2000: The Movie. Like the Gyarados card sale, this sale also set a record high for a PSA 10 copy of this card:
