Pulling the data straight from eBay, GoCollect's Hottest Pokémon Cards provides collectors the best-selling Pokémon cards across the past 10, 30, 60, 90, 180, and 365 days. Although there's often a correlation between FMV (fair market value) and sales volume, the Hottest Pokémon Cards ranks cards solely by the total number of sales.
When you review Pokémon cards sales volume over the past 10, 30, 60, 90, 180, and 365 days, one card clearly reigns supreme: Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat or the Van Gogh Pikachu:
Released in 2023, this unique card was released in partnership with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and features Pikachu wearing the grey felt hat that Van Gogh wore in his self-portraits. The Van Gogh Museum's goal was to leverage Pokémon's global popularity to introduce Van Gogh to younger generations.
The Museum launched the Pokémon x Van Gogh Museum in September 2023 to celebrate the Museum's 50th anniversary. The idea was to reinterpret classic Van Gogh paintings with Pokémon characters while educating visitors about Van Gogh’s life and techniques. According to its website, the "partnership was based on the shared link with Japanese art and culture: Pokémon is a Japanese pop culture icon, and Japanese prints were a significant source of inspiration for Vincent van Gogh."
If sales are any indicator, the Museum has succeeded. Collectors love to buy and sell this card. For instance, over the past two years, 250+ PSA 10 copies of this card sell every month on eBay (the April 2025 sales volume in the chart below appears to be low since the month hasn't closed out yet).
The fact that sales volume has remained consistent over the past 12 months is impressive considering the supply of PSA 10 copies on PSA's population report has dramatically increased since this card's initial release. In late 2023, there were only 4,520 PSA 10s on PSA's population report. Six months later, there were nearly 18,000 PSA 10 graded copies on the population report. Today, there are over 35,000 PSA 10s! In spite of this huge increase in supply, demand (as measured by the number of sales) has remained consistent over the same period of time. This doesn't even include the 2,487 Pristine and Gem Mint 10s on the CGC Census.
Interestingly, the FMV of a PSA 10 copy of this card has been rising significantly over the past year even as supply of graded copies has been increasing. Specifically, its 30-day sales average of $744 is significantly higher than its one-year average of $407. Clearly, the collaboration between one of the greatest artists of all-time and the most famous Pokémon of all-time is a collector's dream.
