This week, Stern Pinball has announced their newest pinball machine, Venom! Based on the Marvel Comics character, this machine captures the spirit of Venom in a solid state machine. This looks to be one of the best Stern has released, and if it's anything like their Spider-Man machines, this will be one game you won't be able to walk away from.

As with most Stern machines, this game comes in Pro, Premium, and Limited Edition.

All three have distinct cabinet art, while only the Pro has it's own unique back glass. The art on each machine is out of this world, with comic inspired art by renound artist Zombie Yeti. The soundtrack for this game was composed by Mark Tremonti, which can only mean one thing -- this game will rock! Venom allows player to play as Venom where you can interact with a number of Marvel characters, including;

Eddie Brock, Flash Thompson, Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker, Black Suit Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Riot, Agony, Lasher, Phage, Doppelganger, Venomized Hulk, Venomized Wolverine and Venomized Captain America.

The goal of the game is to stop Carnage from taking over the world, a simple enough task. But with the many obstacles in your way, it may not be as easy as it seems. Prices for the machine start at $6,999 for a Pro, $9,699 for a Premium, and $12,99 for a Limited Edition, which will only have a run of 1,000 games worldwide.

If you're thinking of adding this machine to your collection, I would say go for a Premium or LE. Pro machines tend to lose value quick, while the higher models tend to retain or gain value. Let's take a look at prices for Venom's buddy Spider-Man to compare.

In summer 2007 Stern released Spider-Man, designed by Steve Richie.

In my opinion this is one of the best pinball machines out there, thanks to engrossing gameplay and callouts pulled from the movies. There was only one model available, and it retailed for $5,799. Since then the game has fluctuated in value, with prices trending down. According to Pinside, the estimated value of the game is between $6290 - $7310.

Shortly after the introduction of Spider-Man, Stern released a LE Black Suit Spider-Man version, limited to 500 units worldwide. While it is harder to find the original MSRP for this game, it has an estimated value of between $7950 - and $9250. Both games are identical save for the suit Spider-Man is wearing.

Nearly 10 years later Stern released a Spider-Man Vault Edition, which features comic-inspired artwork. This is the same game as the previous two versions, but if you're more into the comics this would be the game to go for. The current estimated value for this machine is between $7400 - $8600.

Stern has had a great relationship with Marvel for some time, creating some memorable machines alongside the company.

Stern has high hopes for this machine, enough so that it may be a game-changer for pinball:

“Collaborating with Marvel has given us an opportunity to create this truly unique, engaging and dynamic pinball experience inspired by Venom,” said Seth Davis, President & CEO, Stern Pinball. “The artwork and animations pop. The music rocks. And we can’t wait for fans to sink their teeth into this game changing pinball experience and get connected today.”

You can order a Venom for yourself on Stern's website, or from your locally authorized dealer.
