Designed as a towering four-legged assault walker, the AT-AT (also known as Imperial Walker) quickly became shorthand for the cold, implacable power of the Imperial war machine. Its imposing silhouette stomping across the icy surface of Hoth cemented it as more than a vehicle, it became a symbol.
